Salem, OR. where he was taken home peacefully surrounded by family and friends.

Rod was born to Homer and Louise Woodland in San Fernando, CA. After graduating from Van Nuys High School in CA he was drafted July 5, 1945 into the Army and took basic training at Camp Roberts, CA.,then shipped out to serve in the occupational force of Japan. There he served as a cook and baker for Field Grade Officers (General MacArthur loved Rod’s chocolate chip cookies). After his Honorable Discharge he was sent to Pasadena Veterans Hospital for Ion radiation and was told he had 30-40 days to live. GOD IS GOOD!

He married Roberta Oliver Dec 9, 1948 and worked as an electrician with his father and brothers. He built his first home in San Fernando Valley then moved to Barstow where he built a roller skating rink.

He was part of the NASA team that put Apollo 8 in space. He later moved to Salem, OR and worked at U of O in Eugene. He worked at Oregon State Penitentiary as an Electrical Supervisor and worked with 7 inmates to keep the joint electrically maintained. He was known around Salem as Mr. Cheap and had 2 Import stores. He began wiring houses for Gene Morgan and was known as the fastest wiring dude in town.

Rod married off his 3 kids Louis, Donna and Tamela. After he retired he spent many years volunteering for Oriental Missionaries Society (Men for Missions) and traveled to Ecuador, Spain, Mexico, India, Japan, Brazil, Haiti and Dominican Republic performing electrical work where needed.

He is survived by one brother Shannon, 3 children, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and his loving wife Carol, whom he married in April 2010.

He will be cremated at Keizer Funeral Chapel and placed at Willamette National Cemetery. No local service at his request.
