ROBERT (BOB) LAWRENCE SMITH
(April 9, 1935 – March 18, 2021)
Bob was born in Alhambra, CA on April 9, 1935.  He grew up in Arcadia and later the family moved to Medford, Oregon.  Following high school in Medford, Bob attended Oregon State University and worked for the Department of Forestry.  He later served four years in the U.S. Air Force and, while stationed in England, he met his future wife Christine.  They were married in 1957 in Datchet, Berkshire.
During his career, Bob worked four years for London County Council with Adoptions.  They later returned to live in Keizer OR and by this time they had three children.  Bob became a Counselor at MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility in Woodburn, OR.  After earning his master’s degree from OCE, Bob taught Social Studies at South Salem High School and later at North Salem High School.  He was active in his community as head of the Cub Scout program and President of AFS at McNary High School.
His interests were fishing, gardening, reading, watching sports and traveling.
Bob is survived by his wife Christine, two daughters, Karen and Debbie, a son David, two sisters Mary Ellen and Linda, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Bob will be laid to rest at Willamette National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
