Raymond Albert Wood

Raymond Albert Wood (age 93), of Keizer, Oregon died September 22, 2012. Ray was born January 20, 1928, in Portland, Oregon to Charles Wesley Wood and Julia Irene Piendl Wood.

Ray's life was dedicated to the service of his country and local civic and philanthropic organizations. He began his service at the very young age of 14. He served in the Merchant Marines from 1942-1945 in the North Atlantic and South Pacific seeing action in Okinawa and Guam. In 1945 he joined the Air Force and was stationed in Japan at the end of WWII after the bombing of Nagasaki and served until 1953, honorably discharged as a Sargent First Class.

After his service in the military, Ray returned to civilian life as a businessman in Portland, Oregon where he worked for the Bill Morrison Company which he later owned and managed from 1971-1991. He fulfilled his civic responsibilities by active membership in Tigard-Orenomah Masonic Lodge 207 - Past Master; Shriners – Past Director of Northwest Region Director's Staff; Oregon Executives Association - Past President; Downtown Portland Kiwanis - Past Secretary/Treasurer; Lions Club of Portland; and Royal Rosarians of Portland.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents and his wives, Jeanne Louise Curry (1980), and Nadine Norris Coelho (2019). He was also preceded in death by three brothers (Howard, Frank, and Leonard), and four sisters (Juanita, Mable, Patricia, and Helen). He is survived by four stepchildren (Ronald (Carolyn) Ferreira, Daniel Anthony (Apolla) Ferreira, Gary Anthony (Patti) Ferreira, and Kristine Marie Ferreira).

Interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, Oregon. Memorial service to follow.
