Olga Lelgemann of Albany, Oregon passed away peacefully on July 27, 2022.
She fought a long battle with illness and is now at rest. Olga was born on May 15,
1940 in Brooksville, FL to her parents, William Lelgemann and Cheryl Yontz. She
grew up in Florida and Michigan.
She is survived by her 5 children, Cheryl Middleton and her husband, Charlie
Schmunk of Albany, OR; Sandra Chase of Albany, OR; Diana Williams and her
husband Scott Williams of Norfolk, VA; Charley Kania and his wife Kathy Kania
of Columbus, GA; and Leath Whiteley of Salem, OR. She left a legacy of 15
grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and another great grandchild on the way.
Olga's calling in life was to work with people in mental health crisis. She was a
Registered Nurse and specialized in psychiatric nursing for most of her career.
She retired from Oregon State Hospital in 2002. Throughout her profession, she
made a positive impact on many people.
Once Olga retired, she devoted herself to working with the community at St.
Joseph's church in Salem, Oregon. She taught catechism classes, worked with
the homeless and enjoyed socializing with and going on trips with the other
seniors at the church.
Olga's passions in life were her family, church, gardening and traveling. She
traveled the world and her favorite place to visit was Ireland. She loved camping,
kayaking and shared her love of the outdoors with her family. We have many fond
memories of sitting around campfires with her.
She will be greatly missed, but her zest for life and quirky sense of humor will live
on in our memories and the stories we’ll tell our children and their children.
