Mary Alice Pierce Gomoll of Keizer, Oregon passed away on September
6, 2021. She was born on May 24, 1935 to Alvina Andersen and Ernest Roland Pierce in Gunnison, Utah. Mary was the youngest of four children and the only girl. She and her brothers (Roland, Ernie, and Johnny) worked on the family farm in Flat Canyon, during the summers and lived in Gunnison during the school year.
She married Merle Gomoll on December 20, 1957 and they had 4
boys: Rod, Carl, Alan, and John. Merle was in the US Airforce assigned
to the Strategic Air Command for 21 years so Mary and the family
lived in many different places including Guam, Indiana, Colorado, Utah and
New York before settling down to stay in Oregon in 1974.
Mary graduated from Excelsus Beauty College in Salt Lake then
worked as a beautician. After moving to Oregon Mary worked as a
school bus driver for 18 years and at the Statesman for 9 years before
retiring at the age of 66.
Mary and her family loved horses and horse racing. They traveled
around the country racing and Mary even rode as a jockey a few times.
Mary lived life to the fullest and loved it all. She was a wonderful
daughter, sister, wife, mom, grandma, and friend and will be greatly
missed by everyone.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, husband and
her son Alan. She is survived by her sons Rod, Carl (Vicki), and John as
well as by 3 grand daughters Autumn, Hailey, Naomi and 1 grandson Matthew.
Services will be held at Willamette National Cemetery on Thursday, September 16, 2021, at 1:30 p.m.
