Marion C. Taylor recently died of natural causes at age 88. She was born in Salem, Oregon, the oldest of Arnold and Vina Coffel’s three children. A 6th generation Oregonian, she was raised in Salem. She learned to play piano, play tennis, garden, and preserve foods as a child. After graduating from Salem High School, she married Jerry E. Taylor and over the next six years she bore three children, Mike, Sue, and Nancy. Once all were in school, she began a 27-year career with State Farm Insurance Company. After earning her CPCU and her CLU designations, she became an underwriting supervisor. Marion especially enjoyed the Oregon coast, reading, doing jigsaw puzzles, playing cards with her friends and family, and time with her children. She was an avid Jeopardy! fan from its beginning in 1964. After her retirement, she and Jerry took many trips throughout the U.S. and the world, yet travels to Hawaii and the Caribbean remained her favorites. She was a devoted gardener and Seahawks fan. Marion was known for her positive attitude, energy, friendliness, strength, and resolve. She was widowed after 58 years of marriage, and she joined the Willamette Lutheran Retirement Community and assisted with activities and planning. Marion is predeceased by son Mike, her parents, and sister Janice Wright (Loel). She leaves behind her brother Steve Coffel (Barb), daughters Susan Carriger,
Nancy Kemp (Shoshana), and grandson Jeremy Carriger (Kyle). Marion was an ardent supporter of environmental, wildlife, healthcare, veteran, and social service charities. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Defenders of Wildlife, and Oregon Food Bank.
