James Paul "Paul" Stapley Jr., born January 30, 1952, in Phoenix, Arizona and passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026, at his home in Keizer, Oregon surrounded by his wife Valerie, his daughter Paula Leigh, her significant other Sergio and his grandkids Peyton and Evie‑Lynn.
He was the son of James Paul Stapley Sr. and Cleo May (Shurtz) Stapley, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also predeceased by his daughter Christina Louise Warriner.
Paul graduated from West High in Phoenix, class of 1970, and lived a life filled with hard work, curiosity, and a love of the outdoors. He became an Eagle Scout in 1965 and traveled down the Grand Canyon to Lake Havasupai seventeen times during his years in Scouting. From 1971 to 1973, he served as a missionary in Oakland, California. He earned his private pilot license in 1978, received his dive card in 1984, enjoyed riding his motorcycle, and was an avid golfer who played every week at his peak.
Paul worked as a journeyman plumber in both Arizona and Oregon, finishing his career at Blazer Industries before retiring in 2022. He approached his work with quiet pride and steady dedication.
He is survived by his loving wife, Valerie Stapley; his daughters Paula Leigh Stapley, Summer Johnson, and Cleo Chepkwurui; and his son Jason Supplee. He is also survived by his brothers Kenneth and William Stapley, and his sister Kathy (Mucklou) Stapley. Paul was previously married to Elaine Woods, with whom he shared part of his family.
Paul's life was shaped by adventure and deep love for those around him. His family and friends will remember his humor and the many stories he collected along the way.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dementia Society of America®. A Celebration of Life will be announced soon.
