David J. Short 1958 - 2021

David (Dave) was born September 16, 1958 in Wichita, Kansas to John and Dorothy Short. Dave died on June 24, 2021 with his wife Janet, his sons Timothy and Chad and stepson Brennen Hankins by his side and Aaron Hankins on his way from Alaska.

Dave grew up and graduated High School in Wichita, Kansas before joining the United States Marine Corp in 1978. Dave proudly served in the Marines as a helicopter mechanic and crew chief before transferring to the Army National Guard. He participated in Desert Shield and Desert Storm while serving and retired as a Staff Sergeant.

Dave moved to Keizer, Oregon with Timothy and Chad’s mother, Cathleen E. Short, who proceeded him in passing in 1998.

Dave hired on at Columbia Helicopters in 1990 and worked in the Transmission shop before becoming a Quality Control Inspector. While working at Columbia Helicopters, Dave met Janet Hankins whom he married on January 2, 2001.

Dave and Janet enjoyed taking their boys to theme parks and Dave also coached little League baseball and soccer and volunteered at the local elementary school during Jog-a-Thons. He would always wear funny hats to keep things enjoyable and upbeat. He doted on his family and enjoyed sharing his love of Science Fiction books and his love of football with the boys.

Dave always enjoyed organizing barbeques, chili feeds and football and basketball pools at work. He was a huge fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and University of Kansas Jayhawks basketball. He was a big shining light in many people’s lives and will be greatly missed
