In Loving Memory of Byron Gerald Eidem

Byron Gerald Eidem, 67, of Gervais, Oregon, he passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and family on August 3, 2026, after a courageous battle with stage 4 lung cancer.

Byron was born on November 16, 1958, in St. Helens, Oregon, to Robert Gerald Eidem and Willa Maxine Cutler. He received his GED and went on to build a life centered around hard work, family, and the people he loved.

On August 4, 1984, Byron married the love of his life, Debra Eidem. Together, they shared nearly 42 years of marriage, building a family and a life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.

Byron worked as a construction worker and pilot car driver. He was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family. He was also known for being kind, loving, funny, and, at times, stubborn as hell. He had a great sense of humor and a personality that could fill a room. Above all, Byron loved his family deeply and was incredibly proud of them.

In January 2026, Byron was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Despite the difficult road ahead, he fought hard. He underwent four rounds of chemotherapy and continued immunotherapy treatments while facing repeated complications and hospitalizations. After months of fighting, Byron made the courageous decision to come home on hospice, where he could spend his final days surrounded by the people he loved most.

Byron was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Gerald Eidem and Willa Maxine Cutler, and his brother, Robin Eidem.

He is survived by his loving wife, Debra Eidem of Gervais, Oregon; his children, Derek Eidem of Brush Prairie, Washington; Alycia Thornburg of Gervais, Oregon; Andrea Dalton of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Dawn Nelson of Scappoose, Oregon; and Jason Sperr of Westminster, Colorado; and his grandchildren, including Madelyn Thornburg of Gervais, Oregon; Brandon Lorberau of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Trinity Sperr of Centennial, Colorado. His siblings including Dallas Eidem of Hardin, Montana; Todd Eidem of St. Helens, Oregon; MarySue Redfield of Lodge Grass, Montana; Dana Bartlett of Lodge Grass, Montana; Danny Eidem of Homer, Alaska; and Randy Lewno of Rainier, Oregon, along with many extended family members and friends who loved him dearly.

Byron will be remembered for his kindness, his sense of humor, his stubborn spirit, and the love he had for his family. He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who left an impression on the lives of those who knew him. His family will carry his memory forward through the stories they tell, the laughter they share, and the countless memories he left behind.

Though his absence leaves an unimaginable hole, his family finds comfort in knowing that his suffering is over and that he is finally at peace.

A private service will be held with close family and friends, with an invitation to follow in the coming weeks.

Until we meet again, Dad. We love you. ❤️
