    Allen Fred Lamer

    May 13, 1922 - February 23, 2011

Allen Fred Lamer May 13, 1922 ~ February 23, 2011 SALEM - Al was born near Silver Lake, Kansas as the only child to Tillie and James Lamer. He grew up a typical depression era farm kid, honing his trademark ingenuity, a trait that would serve him well throughout the years. After graduating from high school, the family moved to Scio in 1940, thus establishing his Oregon roots. Al answered Uncle Sam's invitation, joining the Navy in 1942. The Navy wisely drew upon Al's love of electricity and ability to fix/fabricate anything by sending him through a concentrated electrical engineering program. Al landed at Utah Beach at D+2 and proceeded to the Cherbourg Peninsula charged with establishing and maintaining a RADAR station. Discharged in 1946, Al returned to Scio/Albany with great urgency to wed his sweetheart, Dorothy Cook. Together, Al and Dorothy raised two children, Kay (Bill) and Paul (Gerlinde), had 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. The Lamer's owned and operated Al's Radio and TV in Keizer for 37 years. Al served as a founding member of the Keizer Volunteer Fire Department and was active in both the Keizer Lyons and Rotary for many years. He and Dorothy have always worn their Keizer Heritage with great pride. In his retirement, Al enjoyed foreign travel, gardening and working in his shop. His fishing skills/exaggerations were legendary though he was that rare mix of guide, GPS, and fish finder. Keizer funeral Chapel will host a memorial service Monday, February 28th at 11:00 am. Those wishing to commemorate his passing are urged to donate to Willamette Valley Hospice, 1015 3rd St. NW, Salem, OR 97304 or to the Keizer Heritage Foundation, PO Box 20845, Keizer, OR 97307
